Mindful on the Run

As Bruce says, we were born to run. That’s how we were able to hunt our food on the plains of Africa, and to outrun our enemies and predators, sometimes. But today, running does not necessarily mean jogging or working a treadmill. Our busy lives have put all of us running back and forth from place to place, whether it's by car, train, bus, plane or (hopefully) bike, to the store, school, game, business meeting, vacation or visiting a relative. No matter what or where you’re running to, staying mindful with your eating choices doesn’t have to be a challenge.
For instance, before you get in the car, grab a BPA-free bottle of water. A bag of nuts (un-roasted, un-salted) with or without dried fruit is a terrific super snack and energy booster. Picking up the kids after school? Make sure you have some for them! Got a longer car trip planned? Fill the bottom of a cooler with ice and lay in some fruits and vegetables for instant nutrition. And if you want something really delicious, throw a container of MUD in there, too. And if it melts in the container, just drink it. (More on MUD later).
Stuck in the airport between flights? Finding a Caesar salad sans croutons and dressing is easy, even at fast food chains. Breakfast? A banana is the perfect on-the-go way to start your day. And you can always grab an apple or orange to eat on the plane.
Visiting relatives? Tell them of your food preferences before you arrive. Choose food items that are easy to find in the supermarket: fruits, veggies, almond milk, nuts and berries. And when you go out to a business lunch, almost any type of restaurant can put together a dish with just simple ingredients. Salads always fill the ticket, without you having to explain your diet.
So after you have stopped running through your hectic day, relax with that MUD we mentioned earlier. It’s our dairy free ice cream that is full of whole food goodness. And a delicious reason to run home.
